Assessments
In my school, we use the NoNonsense spelling approach. We still wanted to do some assessments, so we wrote a set of tests.
These tests are given out once a term. Ideally, each test has 5 spellings from the previous statutory list, 10 words that have been taught in that term through the NoNonsense approach, and then 5 words from the current statutory list. Sometimes this does not work perfectly, but has to use best fit.
At our school, we decided that below 12/20 was Working Towards, 12/20 – 16/20 was Age Related and 17/20 or more was Greater Depth.
